"Project Success" provides direction in career exploration, leadership, teambuilding, employability, communication, problem-solving and decision making. This program presents self-sufficiency tools to the youth (ages 14-18), empowering them to take an active role in securing their future career goals by exploring career choices and choosing the right career. This also provides resume writing sessions leading up to mock interviews with professional human resource staff from local businesses.
"Project Success Beyond" allows local youth, ages 18-24, who have graduated from the Project Success program to mentor and volunteer as aides while continuing to gather information regarding career guidance and exploration through the use of bi-weekly seminars, field trips, guest speakers, and job shadowing. This program runs from September to May, where you build on leadership skills while participating as a mentor to students who were once "in your shoes."
"Project Discovery" provides career identification, real and virtual job shadowing, and work experiences. This is a planned, structured learning experience that takes place in a workplace for a limited period of time. Youth (ages 18-24) are matched with a mentor for job shadowing and work experiences. These positions may be a paid or unpaid experience. This is designed to help out of school youth acquire the personal attributes, knowledge, and skills needed to obtain a job and advance into the work-force.
Healthy Young Adults teaches age-appropriate topics presented by physicians, clinical staff and non-clinical staff. One of the goals is to show that it takes a lot of different skills to run a hospital. There are lots of opportunities inside and outside the hospital setting.
The program will include a discussion with a St. Luke's Employee or group of employees about a health topic and careers in health care. Attendees will also participate in an activity organized by YES and enjoy a nice meal!
